She was the unlikely social media star of the summer.

And now it seems that Moo-Deng has branched out from her influencer lifestyle – and into politics.

The baby pygmy hippo – who was born at Khao Kheow Open Zoo near the city of Pattaya in Thailand on July 10 – has predicted that Republican candidate Donald Trump will win the US presidential election.

While fans of Moo-Deng have been outraged by her politics, it’s certainly not the first time that animals have predicted the outcome of a big event.

Pubity.com takes a look at some other psychic critters…

Paul the Octopus

Paul hit headlines in 2010 when he accurately predicted the results of the World Cup.

His keepers at the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany, mainly tasked him with predicting the outcomes of international matches in which the German team was playing.

Paul correctly chose the winning team in four of Germany’s six Euro 2008 matches, and all seven of their matches in the 2010 World Cup – including Germany’s third place play-off win over Uruguay on 10 July.

He also correctly chose Spain as the winner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup final.

Paul reportedly amassed an overall record of 12 correct predictions out of 14 – a success rate of approximately 85.7 per cent.

Mani the Parakeet

During the same tournament, Paul had a psychic rival to deal with – Mani the parakeet.

Hailing from Singapore, the bird became famous for correctly predicting the results of all four quarter-final matches.

Mani contradicted Paul by picking the Netherlands to win the final, resulting in some media outlets describing the game as an “octopus-versus-parakeet showdown” – with Paul coming out on top.

On 5 July 2010 – the day before the Uruguay-Netherlands semi-final match – Mani topped Google’s ‘Hot Searches’ in Singapore.

Prior to his World Cup stint, Mani and his owner M. Muniyappan used to see an average of 10 customers a day. But after news of his success spread, this increased to around 10 customers an hour.

Marcus the Pig

So we’ve had birds and molluscs… but what about creatures of a porcine nature?

Marcus the pig from Derbyshire in the UK has predicted many global events in his time thanks to his ‘special powers’ – including the outcome of the 2014 Fifa World Cup, the Brexit referendum and Donald Trump’s election.

While he incorrectly predicted that his home team England would beat Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-final, Mystic Marcus did correctly predict that Belgium and Uruguay would reach the quarter finals – which has to count for something, right?

No, we’re not so convinced either…
