  • The conspiracy theory surrounding a Melania body double has been circulating since Trump’s presidency began back in 2017
  • Melania wore sunglasses indoors throughout her appearance during Election Day
  • Social media had a lot of fun with ‘Fake Melania’ posts throughout Election Day

While most Americans have spent Election Day as balls of nervous energy, urging time to speed up so they can find out who will be the next President of the United States, one conspiracy theory has been taking a lot of people’s minds off the anxiety ridden carnage – Is Donald Trump using a Melania stunt double for public appearances?

Since 2017, when Trump was first in office as President, online theories have flooded social media as to whether the former (and potential future, at the time of writing) President was in fact using a double to pose as his wife Melania. The seemingly unnecessary use of sunglasses and unnatural movements of ‘Melania’ raised more than a few eyebrows and more than a few tweets of discourse online.

And, after a few years out of the spotlight, ‘Fake Melania’-mania has returned, this time following Trump’s daytime appearance during Election Day, in which the former First Lady was once again, rather suspiciously, sporting sunglasses inside.

And so the theories began to snowball…

At the time of writing, Trump is a strong favourite with bookies to regain the Presidency with results coming in from several states across America over the last couple of hours. While no states have been flipped yet, the 45th President is polling well against Vice President Harris in several swing states, including Georgia, which he lost to Joe Biden in 2020. However, voting has been extended in several traditionally blue counties in the Peach State after bomb threats tracked to Russia delayed proceedings earlier in the day.
