Monthly Subscription in Apex, how does it sound? EA wants to know the players’ suggestions about it.
A New Subscription Model for Apex Legends?
Recently a survey was sent to players, asking if they would be interested in a subscription that could include in-game currency, exclusive rewards, and Battle Pass tiers, Insider Gaming highlighted.
This resembles Fortnite’s “crew” model, offering players not only exclusive skins but 1,000 V-Bucks and a Battle Pass— all for $11.99. However, it’s not the first time a company has incorporated such subscriptions.
Games like Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls Online — ESO Plus, PUBG— Royale Pass, Prime subscriptions, and more have already paved the way, offering gamers certain benefits at affordable prices.
Release in 2019, Apex Legends witnessed success by reaching over 170 million users registered for the game— generating revenue of more than $3.4. Unfortunately, luck didn’t remain with Apex for so long and recently the game faced challenges despite being quite popular —the player’s base went down drastically.
Revenue Boosting Strategy
In its Q2 2025 earnings report, EA revealed that changes in Battle Pass in Season 2 resulted in negative monetization and lower player engagement — opposite to the company’s expectation.
“As discussed during our Investor Day, Apex Legends net bookings fell short of our expectations for the quarter, as we extended freemium access across the entirety of the first half of the Season 22 Battle Pass.”
Since then EA has been focusing on bringing innovation to uplift the game— Introduced the classic mode—Launch Royale and turned down the idea of a sequel, rather aiming to improve the current version.
The introduction of a subscription model could be a new way for EA to stabilize revenue and keep players engaged and may draw newcomers as well. Although all efforts are being made to help Apex thrive the way it deserves.
Still, the question remains: will the subscription pass to reinvigorate it? Right now all eyes are on EA as to how they will make the next move and fans are eager to hear more from them.
