2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story recounts the early days of Han Solo as he escapes a rough upbringing, meets Chewbacca, and enters the criminal underworld.

It’s also where he first crosses paths with Lando Calrissian – a slick gambler and the original owner of the Millennium Falcon.

Unfortunately for the rapper, it was a day to forget. He admitted “My audition was trash. I was trash that day”.

The 36-year old had nothing but praise for fellow hip hop star Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino, who landed the role of Calrissian.

“My man Childish Gambino was a way better Lando than I would’ve provided at that time,” he said. “And I think he looked a little more like [Billy Dee Williams] than me.”

Rocky didn’t hesitate when asked if he still wanted to be part of Star Wars or wield a lightsaber, simply saying, “Hell, yeah.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story grossed approximately $393 million worldwide, falling short of expectations for a Star Wars film. The Ron Howard-feature, despite its poor box office performance, received generally positive reviews from critics and was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 91st Academy Awards.

Starring alongside Denzel Washington

Though he’s primarily known as a music artist, Rocky has already dabbled in acting roles and is also a well-known style icon with a significant influence on fashion.

He starred in the 2015 coming-of-age comedy Dope, where he played a drug dealer named Dom, and in the 2018 legal drama Monster, portraying a co-defendant in a murder trial alongside John David Washington.

His latest movie sees the rapper teaming up with Washington’s father, Denzel, in the Spike Lee thriller Highest 2 Lowest.

Rocky said that acting with Denzel “was like a fucking dream come true” and that he had to “hold my composure from not fanning out”.

Highest 2 Lowest hits select theaters on 22 Aug and releases on Apple TV+ on 5 Sep. You can watch the teaser trailer below:
