- Aimee Lou Wood criticised Saturday Night Live’s White Potus sketch
- She’s clarified some of her comments
- Sarah Sherman played a spoof version of Wood’s character Chelsea

Aimee Lou Wood had some strong words for Saturday Night Live over their White Lotus parody sketch, but she’s now clarified some of her comments.
SNL parodied the HBO show with members of the Trump administration standing in for the show’s characters in a sketch called The White Potus. It drew parallels between Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) crashing the economy and Tim Ratliff losing his family’s fortune, for example. Musical guest Lizzo was also part of the sketch.

Sarah Sherman portrayed a version of Wood’s character Chelsea, wearing fake teeth to resemble hers. She also mimicked Wood’s Mancunian accent.
Sherman’s version of Chelsea is the girlfriend of a Rick-esque Robert F. Kennedy (played by Jon Hamm).
“I’ve been having these insane ideas, like what if we took all the fluoride out of the drinking water? What would that do to people’s teeth?” Hamm added, as Sherman responded, “Fluoride? What’s that?”
What did Wood say about the sketch?
On social media, the actress – also recognisable for her role in Sex Education – called out SNL for being “mean and unfunny”.
“Whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny,” she wrote before writing she might delete the post.

In a follow-up post, Wood added, “Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
She later said that SNL had privately apologised to her.
“Not hating on her, hating on the concept”

Wood then had some further clarification on the situation and explained she didn’t hold any malice towards Sherman herself.
“Actually one last thing,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “Not @sarahsquirm’s fault. Not hating on her, hating on the concept.

She added: “Last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature – i understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on… okay end of.”
On another post, Wood appeared to screenshot a fan’s comment that read, “It was a sharp and funny skit until it suddenly took a screeching turn into 1970’s misogyny.”
“This sums up my view,” she wrote over the screenshot.
