- Emily in Paris was renewed for season 5 in September
- Season 4 ended with Emily not in Paris
- Showrunner Darren Star teased Emily will have a “presence in Rome”

Miraculously, Netflix’s biggest dumpster fire of a show was renewed for season 5 – and Emily Cooper will be back. Just you know, maybe not back in Paris.
Fair warning: Emily in Paris season 4 spoilers lurk below.
In case you missed it, Emily in Paris season 4 ended with Emily (Lily Collins) living it up with a handsome Italian dreamboat. A nice change of scenery, to be honest. In September 2024, the show was renewed after reaching the Netflix Top 10 in multiple countries.
Series creator Darren Star expressed his delight at the renewal. He told Netflix Tudum “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!”
So…what’s in store for Emily in Paris season 5? Here’s what we know…
When will season 5 be released?

Given the fact Emily in Paris season 5 hasn’t started filming, we’re sorry to say a release date is unavailable.
The show has stuck to a pattern of releasing a season a year. Season 4 bucked this trend, releasing almost two years after season 3’s debut in December 2022.
Assuming Netflix follows this pattern, season 5 will likely release in 2026, and begin filming in 2025. However, we’ll keep you updated as soon as everything is confirmed.
Emily in Paris Season 5 plot

The plot for season 5 of Emily in Paris isn’t known yet but Star has hinted at it with one phrase: “adventures in Rome and Paris”.
This could mean part of season 5 will focus on Emily working in Paris and getting closer to her new beau Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).
However, since Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) ended last season on a mission to get Emily back, season 5 could explore their relationship now Emily is with someone else (yet again).
Alternatively, Emily might (please Star) reject Gabriel and move on with living a life in Rome. Or, if the showrunner repeats the same mishap he did in his previous hit show Sex and the City, Emily will go back to Paris to be with Gabriel but we will pretend it’s for her job.
Anyone else getting Carrie and Mr Big flashbacks?
The answer to this question as of now isn’t definitive. However, Star put it best when he said: “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
He added: “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris.” He also confirmed that the relationship between Marcello and Emily will be explored in new episodes so there will be a fresh romance blossoming.
Much of the plot could revolve around romance or work in Italy but who knows with this show?
Collins certainly expressed her enthusiasm for ‘Marcemily’. She told Tudum: “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance.
“We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”
What might the other characters get up to in Emily in Paris season 5?

Mindy (Ashley Park) gets a random gig as a judge on Chinese Pop Star which could become part of season 5. Camille (Camille Razat) makes plans to move on with her life in a direction that could write her out of the show or explore an interesting single-mother storyline.
Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) is also in Rome for work so season 5 could explore more of her adventures at Agence Grateau enjoying the fruits of her labor in an open marriage.
As for Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), there doesn’t seem to be much hope for him in season 5 since he got a new girlfriend and was relegated to the show’s background when the love triangle concluded. The same can be said for fan favourites Julian (Samuel Arnold) and Luc (Bruno Goeury) who give us life with their comedic timing.
Emily In Paris season 5 cast

Collins is pretty much confirmed to return for season 5. Also as good as returning will be Franceschini as Marcello since he is an integral part of Emily’s Rome storyline.
Those with big storylines likely to also return are Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie and Park as Mindy Chen. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
The relocation to Rome does put the cast returns into question though, even for the main cast.
One actor has expressed hesitance at returning, even though he’s integral and Emily’s number-one love interest.
Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) was at the forefront of Emily’s romantic mishaps for four seasons and part of season 4’s cliffhanger. So, his reluctance to return, expressed in an interview with IndieWire, could put his place in season 5 in jeopardy.
No reports have come out yet on whether he has renewed his contract for season 5. Bravo told the outlet that he thinks the show has a “lack of risk”, and that the character of Gabriel has “slowly turned into guacamole.” Whatever that means.
Despite his sentiments towards Gabriel not being positive right now, he did express an interest in playing Gabriel in season 5. “I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction my character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over.”
No, Lucas, it certainly isn’t over.
