Is there a trailer?

The latest trailer for Mickey 17 arrived in late January 2025 and showed Robert Pattinson taking on the role of an ‘Expendable’ which turns out to be as dangerous as you might expect.

Before this arrived, the film’s first official trailer landed late last year, and it looked like a whirlwind.

What is Mickey 17 about?

The story follows Mickey Barnes, played by Pattinson, a man sent to colonise the icey world Niflheim. However, he is actually a clone so whenever he is on a mission that kills him, he gets revived.

During his re-engineering, Mickey is given back all his memories.

Is it based on a book?

Yes! The film adapts the Edward Ashton book Mickey 7, which is all about space colonization, cloning and memory. It was published in 2022 to critical and commercial success.

When asked if he was nervous about Joon Ho’s reputation for taking creative liberties, the author wasn’t bothered at all.

Ashton told Space.com in 2023, “A lot of people have asked if I’m nervous since he has a reputation for diverting from the source material. My answer was absolutely not. That man is a genius. I’ve seen all of his films, and he’s never made a bad one. I don’t think he’s going to start with Mickey 7. He’ll do a fantastic job.”

Has the promo tour kicked off?

Pattinson accompanied the director to a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, on 20 January.

At the event, Jong Ho lambasted the growing trend of using AI in movies and admitted he wanted to cast Pattinson because of his his “remarkable talent”.

In November, he also sat down with the film magazine Empire, where he called the film “the most human story” he has ever made.

“Ultimately, the story is about how pathetic humans can be. It’s almost like you can smell every human character in the film — their p**s stains and their smelly socks,” Joon Ho said.

He also told the magazine,  “I was really captivated by the idea that human printing is not respectful at all. You’re literally reproducing humans like an inkjet printer.”
