- Andrew Garfield was left stunned after the poster for his latest movie went viral – because of a carousel horse
- The goofy equine stole the show in the We Live In Time poster
- But now Garfield is embracing the viral moment – and fans are loving it

He’s one of the industry’s most in-demand actors.
And now Andrew Garfield is showing off his sense of humor – by embracing a very unlikely internet star.
Fans have been going wild for the chemistry between Garfield, 41, and Florence Pugh, 28, with the pair set to star together in new rom-com, We Live In Time.
But after the poster for the movie – which will hit theaters on January 1 next year – was released in August, the duo’s big moment was accidentally overshadowed… by a carousel horse.
The equine became the face of many memes online, with fans photoshopping the head into other movie scenes.
Garfield has since addressed the viral moment.
Garfield explained he saw the promo photo as he was “doom scrolling” right before going to a six-day retreat in Northern California, during which he would not have his phone.
“I see this image, and I think, ‘Maybe I’m the only one that will notice this insane horse,’” he told Stephen Colbert. “‘It feels like we’re in his poster, in a way. No, I’m probably being overly sensitive. No one else will see it.’”
But when he turned his phone back on, he said the first thing he saw was Colbert talking in his monologue about the horse. “I see all the memes, which are just, I was crying with laughter in the departure lounge,” he said. “So I guess other people noticed it.”
But while he may have been exasperated at the time, Garfield is now ready to give into the power of the pony.
This week, the Spider-Man star was spotted wearing a shirt – which was embroidered with a picture of the carousel creature.
And Garfield also shared a funny skit with the Colbert show followers.
Fans went wild for Garfield’s humor.
“My new favorite genre is Andrew Garfield doing TikToks,” wrote one, while another added, “The way he’s acting the s*** out of this too, like he’s chronically unable to not serve.”
“I was gonna say damn he really good at TikToks lip syncing, when I dumbly realized well of course because he’s an actor,” someone else joked.
‘We Live in Time becomes one of the best movie romances in years’
Playing lovers Almut and Tobias in the John-Crowley directed screenplay, Pugh and Garfield have had audiences hooked with their sweet friendship as they work to promote their work, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month.
The characters are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives – before their relationship is challenged by a devastating diagnosis.
The effort has already been met with rapture, with critics branding it “immensely charming, a big, full-throated romantic drama that knows exactly how to make us swoon as well as make us sad”.
“Crowley is confident that the chemistry between Pugh and Garfield is so compelling, people will want to watch his movie again and again, at which point, Almut and Tobias’ memories will have become our memories,” wrote Variety.
Collider wrote, “With Pugh and Garfield leading this tremendous love story, We Live in Time becomes one of the best movie romances in years, and proves that few filmmakers can present the power of love quite like Crowley can.”
IndieWire added, “The conceit of Nick Payne’s original screenplay isn’t particularly novel, but scrambling its love story out of order allows We Live in Time to make the most of its gentle touch, if only because its hands are wrapped around our necks from the moment it starts.”
