While many animated shows and movies are getting the live-action treatment currently, one beloved live-action sitcom is returning to our screens later this year in animated form.
Everybody Still Hates Chris has been described as a “reimagining” of the popular sitcom, which was partly based on Chris Rock’s upbringing.
Returning and new actors
It has also been confirmed that some of the original actors from the series, which ran from 2005-09, will be returning to provide voices. This includes Rock as the narrator of the show – he is also an executive producer – as well as Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold, who play his parents.
There are a raft of new voices involved too. Tim Johnson Jr takes on the part of young Chris, while Ozioma Akagha will voice Chris’ sister, Tonya. Terrence Little Gardenhigh will play Chris’ brother Drew and Gunnar Sizemore plays Greg, Chris’ best friend.
Outlier show
Everybody Still Hates Chris is something of an outlier as an animated version of a live action show as many are getting the reverse treatment. For instance, it has recently been announced that much-loved French show Totally Spies has a live-action series in the works with Will Ferrell on board as an executive producer.
We also have a live-action Moana movie to look forward to in the next couple of years, and the titular character has just been cast for that.
Everybody Still Hates Chris will premiere on Comedy Central and stream on Paramount+ in late 2024 – an exact release date has not yet been announced.
