She’s one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.

But Anne Hathaway caused a stir this week when an old interview resurfaced.

In a chat from the Les Misérables press tour in 2012 – a movie for which Hathaway, 41, won an Oscar for her portrayal of Fantine – with Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa, the actor is noticeably curt with her answers.

After Flaa reshared the 12-year old footage, viewers also noticed that while still being polite, Hathaway also refused to sing any of the songs from the musical.

However, Flaa was thrilled this week when Hathaway reached out to her via her publicist.

“Yesterday I did receive an email. It was from Anne Hathaway’s publicist, and he forwarded a message to me from Anne Hathaway. I have to say, I was pretty shocked,” Flaa told her viewers. “I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never gonna even see that video, but she did. And she did something pretty amazing.

“She sent me a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for being… giving me an awful interview, basically. It was so touching to me.

“Just talking about it makes me almost teary eyed because I was just so grateful that she did that.”

Flaa did not want to reveal the full email to her viewers but said that Hathaway sent a “very personal note” and also invited Flaa to interview her the next time she has a major film release in 2025.

“I’m really looking forward to that, Anne,” Flaa said.

‘How is that rude?’

However, some people weren’t impressed by Flaa.

“If the same woman keeps getting ‘awful interviews’, maybe it’s the interviewer, I’m just saying… she doesn’t seem to be natural, she just asks awkward robotic questions and then gets upset when they’re awkward back,” questioned one person on Twitter/X. “How is that rude? She says no and refuses to elaborate, you are allowed to say no and not answer questions you don’t want to.”

Another explained, “Those questions were kinda dumb though. What was next? What’s your favorite color? It’s good to know Anne apologized and was going through a rough time, but interviewing is a skill and a privilege. You can’t just ask dumb questions that have nothing to do with anything on a press tour for a movie.

“You have to learn to read the room too, people are exhausted on press tours and going from one interview to the next. She wasn’t there to do some nonsense singing questions or talk about boys like you’re at a slumber party. She doesn’t know you like that.”

Another person said, “I don’t know, it seems like maybe this journalist is not doing her job in a way where people feel comfortable, and she doesn’t seem to know how to improvise when they don’t answer exactly how she wants. She keeps wanting to share these which seems a lil sus and clout chasey.”

“If she keeps doing this, I don’t know how she’s going to continue to get interviews,” a final person added. “It would be like if I went around my job complaining to everyone about my co-workers’ behavior when they’re not around. Pretty soon, no one would want to be around me or talk to me at all.”

Flaa also made headlines over the summer when she resurfaced an interview with Blake Lively from 2016 – and said the now-viral clip was “the most uncomfortable interview situation I have ever experienced.”
