- EA confirms a major overhaul for Apex Legends, dubbed 2.0
- The update is delayed as EA focuses on the next Battlefield
- No sequel planned—developers aim to enhance the current game

Good news for Apex Legends fans, Electronic Arts (EA) is preparing a major update for the game, Apex Legends 2.0, with CEO Andrew Wilson confirming that the studio is working on a significant overhaul of the game’s overall experience.
Why EA is Concerned about Apex?
However, this isn’t going to happen anytime soon as EA is majorly focused on the next Battlefield title and dedicatedly working on to ensure its perfect launch. Apex Legends has been facing a downfall, but this wasn’t always the case.
Since its release, it has remained one of the most popular battle royale games. Each season has introduced new content to keep the players interested and engaged.
However, as per recent reports, the player’s numbers went down drastically, and factors like cheating and overpriced in-game items are said to be the reason behind this.
The number of concurrent players reported in 2024 was 150,000, less than reported in 2023: 624,000. Considering this, EA shared some details regarding the future plans in October 2024, mentioning that the sequel is unlikely to happen and the team aims to enhance the current game rather than working on a new one.
Apex Legends 2.0: What to Expect
During a recent investor call (Via IGN), Andrew Wilson was asked about the game’s performance, and he stated,
“Apex is probably one of the great new launches in our industry over the last decade and has been loved by that core cohort, and we’ve had over 200 million people play the game,”
“However, the trajectory of the business of that franchise has not been headed in the direction that we have wanted for some time. We have been trying, tuning, and testing many things in the context of the ongoing support of the community.”
He mentioned that EA is also working on the update which he called Apex Legends 2.0 but also confirmed that it will be delayed due to the upcoming Battlefield title and may get released after sometime. In addition, he hinted at an even bigger update in the future. Wilson further stated,
“Our expectation is that Apex will also be one of those franchises and that sometimes on a longer-term time horizon, there will be an even bigger, more meaningful update to that broader game experience, an Apex 2.0 if you will. This will not be the final incarnation of Apex.”
About a sequel, it has been clarified before that the team believes that the second version doesn’t go as successful as the first one, so they prefer fixing it. While specific details about the upcoming update have not been shared, it’s clear that the company is committed to bringing life to the game once again.
