Could Arya Stark be poised for a return to our screens in the Game of Thrones universe? Author George RR Martin has dropped a heavy hint that she could be.

Cryptic blog post

Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, was an immensely popular character in Game of Thrones and, crucially, was still alive at the end of season eight of Game of Thrones.

In his blog, where he regularly spills the tea, Martin wrote about a recent trip he made to London, where he met up with Williams for dinner. “We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it,” he wrote. “But it could be so much fun.”

It isn’t like Martin to be so coy about what he is up to with the Game of Thrones universe, but this will get people talking.

Spinoff options

While there are multiple Game of Thrones spinoffs that are on screen or in the works at the moment, the common thread is that none of them are set in the same time as the original Game of Thrones. So where could Stark fit in?

Of course, there is the possibility this is another GoT spinoff that we previously didn’t know about. Stark’s ending in GoT – where she sailed off into the distance to try and discover what lies beyond the maps of the known world – does lend itself to a whole series of its own documenting her adventures.

Then there is the Game of Thrones movie. Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter, citing numerous sources, said that Warner Bros is in the early stages of developing a Game of Thrones movie. But it was added that it is at such an early stage that currently there is no writer, director or cast attached to it. There is the possibility that the movie could be a continuation from Game of Thrones, so Stark could feature there too.

But being the GoT universe, almost anything is possible, so could Stark crop up somewhere else? Or maybe event Williams play an ancestor of Arya? Time will tell.
