Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, has different plans, now officially shifting their focus from the former installment to a new thrilling project.
Baldur’s Gate 3: A Legendary Success
The studio seems to be done with the responsibility of delivering one of the most iconic CRPGs ever and is now aiming to pay attention to other spectacular content. In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian confirmed, “Swen and the team[‘s]… full attention is focused on crafting their next title.”
While speaking of BG3, the game has earned a big name in the gaming industry thanks to the studio’s Divinity: Original Sin series. The titles achieved amazing prosperity and further built a way for the Larion to prove their skills for creating high-quality RPGs.
Eventually convinced the Baldur Gate 3’s original developers, Bioware, to let the studio show their magic and creativity. The game was released in 2023 and became one of the best video games of all time.
Players admired the gameplay, characters, and the narrative that it even won the Game of the Year awards. While no one is aware of the future of Baldur Gate games, the company, Wizards of Coasts is facing an arduous time in finding someone to make new installments as appealing as previous ones.
However, players can expect to see the same actors as those from BG3 who are willing to make the return.
Excalibur: The Next Big Adventure
Now players are getting the only last update for his game— patch 8, and afterward, there won’t be major changes, but only small fixes will be done.
Larian is gearing up for the next game, called Excalibur. Currently, it is known by this name, and nothing much has been revealed regarding it. The Larian CEO, Swen Vincke, mentioned during the Digital Dragons Conference in May 2024 that the upcoming project will be the studio’s primary focus once Patch 8 is released.
Although details are limited, the game is expected to be another stunning RPG, potentially aiming for a release between 2028 and 2029. Developers are committed to perfection and deliver flawless high-end projects, which means that players should not rush when it comes to instant updates or early access.
