  • First season, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, won eight Emmys
  • Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny will also star in the upcoming season
  • New season focuses on a young couple who “witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife”

Beef is back on the menu at Netflix. After the supreme showing of Lee Sung Jin’s very funny and very, very dark first season, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, it should come as no surprise that the streaming behemoth wanted to ride the coattails of that success for another A-Lister led eight episodes.

In place of Wong and Yeun this time will be Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, with Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny in supporting roles.

While an incident of road rage triggered the anarchic dual revenge missions of Wong and Yeun in season one, season two will focus on a young couple who “witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.”

Director and series creator Jin will once again serve as the showrunner for the upcoming season. Following the first season’s eight-Emmy award winning haul, Jin told The Hollywood Reporter that he was“constantly writing stuff down” for potential story ideas, saying, “I think Beef will just by its title always have [conflict] simmering underneath, but in terms of what the other layers could be, that’s something that I’d really need to take some time and see deep inside what wants to come out.”

The second season of Beef will see Isaac and Mulligan reunite after their success alongside each other in the Coen Brothers’ 2013 hit Inside Llewyn Davis. The series is produced by A24.
