Wyatt Russell has become the latest celebrity to talk about their alleged ‘nepo baby’ status and has admitted that his family background does make things easier.

Russell is starring in the latest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thunderbolts* as John Walker/US Agent, a super soldier who had been earmarked to take over from Captain America by the US government, until he received an other than honorable discharged. He is now trying to find redemption as part of the Thunderbolts*.

Thunderbolts* is much anticipated and has received positive early reviews and currently has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have also given the movie the thumbs up, with some saying it is one of the best MCU films ever.

Wyatt Russell – nepo baby?

Russell has garnered some attention for his parentage – Hollywood stars Kurt Russell (who has also appeared in the MCU, playing Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy 2) and Goldie Hawn – which has meant the ‘nepo baby’ tag has been associated with him.

For those not familiar with the term, ‘nepo baby’ is a term used to describe the children of famous actors who are now making a name for themselves in movies and TV. The inference is that their famous parentage makes it easier for them to get work in movies than, say, another person starting out who doesn’t have the familial connections.

In an interview with MovieWeb, Russell said that he never felt pressurised to choose acting as a career, but growing up around movie sets did spark his interest in the industry.

Not bothered

As for the nepo baby tag? He’s not bothered by it. “People talk about nepo babies and stuff, and you’re like ‘Yeah, 100% is it 1000 times easier? F*ck yeah. Are you kidding me? It’s a million times easier. When you get on to set, the thing that actually makes it easier is the fact I’ve seen this 1000 times, and you have never seen it. So it’s like family business, right?”

Russell added that if he had wanted to pursue a different career, he was supportive. “I saw this life, and it actually connected in a way that I thought I could be very good at,” he added.

You can see Russell on screen in Thunderbolts*, which is in theaters now.
