The creator of classic alien-fighting cartoon franchise Ben 10 has said that he would be interested in making an adult version of the show.

In a recent interview with Cartoon Base, Duncan Rouleau said he would be open to creating a version of Ben 10 for adult audiences, which dealt more mature themes that previous shows have done, which were always aimed at children.

“It would be great to have a high stakes show that offered more mature themes,” Roulea told Cartoon Base. “Not so interested in gore or sexual content, but dealing with emotional, social and political elements that the MCU movies deal with would be exciting.”

There is precedent for something like this – Adult Swim did take on Cartoon Network series Samurai Jack, which saw the titular character engaging in far more violent battles than he did on the kid’s channel.

Ben 10, which was aired on the Cartoon Network channel, focused on the adventures of Ben Tennyson and his family. Ben was just an ordinary boy until he found the Omnitrix, an alien device that allowed him to change into any one of 10 aliens, all with different powers and abilities, at the click of a button, meaning he could take on all sorts of baddies and save the world. The show ended in 2016, but has regularly been repeated ever since and is available on streaming platforms.

Roulea adds that would also be open to working on a feature involving the Ben 10,000 character – in the show a version of Ben 20 years in the future – saying he was a “great character” who “deserves their own feature. However, there was no word on whether a new Ben 10 show was in the works.
