- Ben Schwartz has revealed his desire to take on DC Superhero role
- Plastic Man has been referred to as the Deadpool of the DCU
- James Gunn hasn’t said if Plastic Man is in his plans for the DCU

Ben Schwartz – currently voicing Sonic the Hedgehog – has revealed his desire to move into superhero movies and he has his eye on playing one character in particular.
Talking to ComicBook, Schwartz said that he has a long time love for Plastic Man, who is renowned for being one of DC’s funniest characters.
Love for Plastic Man
Plastic Man is a long-established DC character, having first appeared way back in 1941. In his genesis story, Patrick O/Brian is involved in an accident with mysterious chemicals (aren’t they all?) after which he gains the power of elasticity. Initially he uses his powers to become a successful criminal, but after an encounter with a reformed inmate of Arkham Asylum, he decides to use his powers for good and becomes Plastic Man. However, while he has been around for more than 80 years, he isn’t one of DC’s best known heroes
Schwartz, mindful that James Gunn is rebooting the DC Universe and has a long-term plan for it, mentioned that he would love to play Plastic Man on the big screen one day. “I always thought that he could be the Deadpool of the universe,” he said. “He can be comedic, he has a big thief backstory. I’m obsessed with that character. And he’s funny. And I think having a funny character in the Justice League – I think that would be a perfect foil for all the other serious characters they have over there.”
Gunn hasn’t mentioned that Plastic Man is part of his plans for the DCU but, given the wide scope it is being given, you never know.
Thanks Ugly Sonic
Schwartz of course is busy as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He has recently spoken about how the uproar in response to the ‘Ugly Sonic’ shown in the first trailer for the first movie – and subsequent redesign – set the franchise on the road to success.
