Season seven will include the drama’s first-ever sequel episode, continuing the story of one of its most celebrated entries, USS Callister. The episode follows a gifted programmer, Robert Daly, who vents his frustrations by simulating a Star Trek–like space adventure within a game. He uses his co-workers’ DNA to create sentient digital clones of them, which he tortures.

Netflix announced the sequel episode in early 2024, with a teaser video that shared the news of six new episodes coming in 2025. The USS Callister music could be heard in the clip, much to the delight of fans.

In September 2024, the streaming service shared another cryptic teaser, featuring the names of several cast members from the Emmy-winning USS Callister episode, which originally aired in season four.

With this news, it has naturally led to wider discussions about other cast members and who is confirmed to return for the seventh season. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Brooker admitted, “We’ve got an embarrassingly stacked cast”, speaking at Geeked Week.

He added, “Fans of the show will recognize the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing. We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, and I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human.”

The current confirmed cast for season seven is:

Awkwafina (Jackpot!)

Milanka Brooks (Mum And I Don’t Talk Anymore)

Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record)

Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine)

Patsy Ferran (Firebrand)

Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers)

Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099)

Osy Ikhile (Citadel)

Rashida Jones (Sunny)

Siena Kelly (Domino Day)

Billy Magnussen (Road House)

Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean)

Cristin Milioti (The Penguin)

Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids)

Issa Rae (Barbie)

Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories)

Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish)

Jimmi Simpson (Westworld)

There are a few notable guest stars from USS Callister who haven’t been listed, including Michaela Coel (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), who played Shania Lowry. In the episode, Lowry is transformed into an Arachnajax by the cruel Daly but re-emerges in human form after the crew passes through a wormhole. That said, it’s still possible that Coel could reprise the role

Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), while only had a voice role in USS Callister, playing the unseen Gamer691, could be a future addition. He did go on to appear in the flesh as a different character for the Black Mirror season 6 episode Beyond the Sea.

Brooker has provided a pretty clear cut explanation as to why Jesse Plemons – who earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal as Daly – is not featuring in the sequel. Speaking to WPR, he said “Well, Jesse Plemons, his character is dead, unfortunately. So not to spoil the first one! Yeah, he dies at the end of the first one, so he’s gone, but they’ve got to sort of press on. It’s a nearly feature length extravaganza.”

Black Mirror Season seven is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025, though an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
