Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is almost here! The first reactions from the press and viewers are in. Renée Zellweger is back in the fourth instalment of Bridget Jones’ chaotic life, and this time she’s back to her single roots, but maybe not for long, who knows?

The franchise has four films and follows the life and diaries of single British woman Bridget Jones and her love life, motherhood and now grief. The first movie came out in 2001 to major success, and is based on Helen Fielding’s 1996 novel and series of the same name. However, we won’t have to wait long to find out how good the movie is, as the reactions tell us that.

Bridget triumphs again

Journalist Anna Smith described the fourth instalment as a “total triumph”. She wrote on X: “Watched BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY with some trepidation but am pleased to report it a total triumph. Cleverly brings characters into current day; is comical success and also surprising tear-jerker. Must watch again.”

The film will deal with multiple themes, including juxtaposing themes of romance and grief. You have to love the Bridget Jones universe.

Phil de Semlyen echoed a similar sentiment about the movie. He wrote: “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is a front-to-back delight. A romcom about grief and starting over with heavy boots but a light heart, full of great gags and Renée Zellweger hitting Shirley MacLaine-in-The-Apartment levels of excellence.”

So the reviews are positive then…so far. It’ll be interesting to see Bridget explore a new space, now with children and doing it alone. Rightly so, she’s experiencing the rom-com life yet again but in a sort of backwards way. So ahead of Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, what else is there to know?

Bridget Jones is releasing on the Peacock streaming service first, on February 13. The following day, Valentine’s Day, it will be out in theatres. Fitting that the movie comes out on Valentine’s Day, it’s about time we see Bridget Jones get the boy, hopefully for forever. (Rip, Mark Darcy).

Who is in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy?

Bridget Jones 4 stars the incredible Zellweger who has played the role since 2001. Also appearing in the movie are Bridget’s former love interests, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Joining as new cast members and potential love interests for our fave frazzled lady are Leo Woodhall as Roxster, Bridget’s new age-gap romance and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mr Wallaker, a teacher.

When was the Bridget Jones screening?

The premiere for Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy was in Paris on January 27. Grant and Zellweger reunited on the red carpet and had fans gushing. Grant was not in the third movie, Bridget Jones’ Baby, but joined for the fourth and what seems like the final film.

Aren’t they just adorable, it’s almost hard to forget what a bad man Cleaver once was. If you know, you know.

Where was the screening?

Where better to have a screening for a hopeful rom-com than in the city of love? The premiere was at Le Grand Rex in the French capital city.

The wait may seem long now but, in just two weeks, but it’ll come sooner than you think. You’ll be able to see Bridget Jones, Daniel Cleaver and the new gorgeous Roxster (Leo Woodhall the man that you are), on-screen or on streaming on the most romantic day of the year. A win, win, to be honest.
