- Ciri becomes the new protagonist
- Game launches a fresh trilogy
- Built with Unreal Engine 5 for immersive visuals

In a stunning reveal at The Game Awards 2024, CD Projekt Red finally unveiled their next installment— The Witcher 4. The new game, first named “Polaris”, will be the beginning of a new Trilogy.
Ciri Takes the Spotlight
It remained a topic of discussion this year. Due to leaks and relevant hints now fans are no longer in doubt as it is release has been confirmed. The six-minute cinematic trailer, which opened the night’s announcements, showcased Ciri as the game’s new playable protagonist.
A new chapter with this character shows the shift in the story — the focus has moved from Geralt of Rivia to Ciri. While speaking about this decision during an interview with IGN, Sebastian Kalemba, the Game’s Director said,
“In this game, we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path. This trailer is a taste of both that and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.”
Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga explained the choice further, saying,
“It was always about her, starting from Saga when you read it in the books. She’s an amazing, layered character. And of course, as a protagonist, we said goodbye to Geralt previously. So this is a continuation. I guess for all of us it’s like she was meant to be. That was always her.”
Kalemba added,
“The amount of challenges that are in front of her gives us so much amazing energy and fuel to create an epic saga that we had no choice but to go with it. We all felt that this is the way. I believe this is the super right choice.”
Freedom Shapes the Story
Another major factor that makes Ciri the best fit is the sense of freedom she brings into the narrative, allowing more player-driven storytelling as compared to the form character.
The Witcher 4 is the first entry in a planned trilogy that will expand upon the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Fans of the series will notice that CDPR has canonized the ending where Ciri becomes a witcher, which aligns with her new role in the game.
The development of The Witcher 4 is being done using the customized Unreal Engine 5, which aims to delivery spectacular visuals and gaming experience. However, no official date has been shared yet, fans are expecting to hear from CDRP in 2025.
Rest assured developers are all up to deliver the polished game to prevent any kind of disruption at the time of launch and afterward.
