After years of being talked about, it seems that the much hoped for Community movie is set to shoot this year.

Joel McHale, one of the stars of the show, which ran for six seasons ending in 2015, told Deadline that the thinks the movie will be shot this year, adding that the filming will be worked around Donald Glover’s schedule.

Community’s creator, Dan Harmon, has previously told Variety a script for the film was almost completed and would be set on the campus of Greendale Community College.

One of the main problems with getting a Community movie off the ground has been finding a window where all of the actors could get together. Since the show finished, many have gone on to forge successful careers elsewhere, none more so than Glover, who has starred in Altanta (which he also created) and the recent Prime Video series Mr and Mrs Smith, as well as various films, and being hugely successful in the music industry under the moniker Childish Gambino.

A film version of the series has been talked about for years, with Glover known to be keen to do it, if the scheduling could be worked out and streaming service Peacock formally commissioned it in September 2022. It now seems closer than ever to happening, but Peacock has yet to announce when filming will start.

Community ran for 110 episodes over six seasons, running from 2009 to 2015. It was set in the fictional Colorado town of Greendale and starred Glover as Troy Barnes, a former star quarterback who lost his scholarship at a top university and starts back at the college. McHale played Jeff Winger, a former lawyer who enrols at the college after being suspended by the bar. He then sets up a study group, which becomes the focus of the show.

It became known for its use of meta-humor and raft of pop culture references, making it a cult favorite with fans. The show won four Primetime Emmy Awards.
