The Simpsons has gained a reputation for predicting the future in recent years – and yet another episode has come true thanks to Cypress Hill.

Fan lobbying

Back in 1996, The Simpsons episode Homerpalooza first aired, containing the joke that rap group Cypress Hill mistakenly thought it had booked the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), while under the influence. In the episode, it was Peter Frampton who had been trying to book the LSO.

The episode has become one of the most famous and has been repeated for years, which has helped to keep the joke in the public consciousness. Indeed, it is something that Cypress Hill’s fans have been lobbying the group to make real for years. So they finally decided to do it.

Positive response

Cypress Hill reached out to the LSO on social media, and they responded positively, and so a deal was struck. Now, for one night only, Cypress Hill performed alongside the LSO in a show based around their iconic Black Sunday album, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

In an interview with the BBC, Cypress Hill rapper B-Real said that it was something that had been talked about for years, and that the group had never played a venue as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall.

In the episode, Homer was disappointed that his music taste wasn’t considered cool by the kids, so, in a bid to impress them he went to the Hullabalooza festival – a reference to the famous Lollapalooza music festival – and ended up hanging out with various stars, including Cypress Hill and The Smashing Pumpkins.
