Daisy Ridley became a fixture of the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens in 2015 and is now coming front and center in a new film.

As it stands, the film is called Star Wars: New Jedi Order and is set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The actress’s reprisal of her role as Rey was announced in April 2023. Meanwhile, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing.
Even though she’s been rather busy with other projects lately, Ridley gets questions asked about Star Wars all the time. She’s currently promoting the film Cleaner, where she plays a window cleaner who was once in the army.
So what’s Ridley said about how the film is shaping up?
“The script is being written and I’m very excited”
By the sounds of things, it appears New Jedi Order is some way off.
“I don’t think it’ll be the next thing I go to production on because I’m supposed to be doing—oh no, it’s not, because I’m doing something next month, very excitingly,” Ridley told Screenrant. “So it’s not the next thing production-wise, but the script is being written and I’m very excited.”
She’s also shed light on how involved she might be with other aspects of the film beyond just starring in it.
“I don’t know that I’d be a producer on it, but I certainly have been very involved,” Ridley told Collider . “I’m involved in, well, not very involved, but I’m involved in as much as I know what’s going on, I know the story, I know what’s going on with the script, so I’m aware of all that.
“And I think what’s been really wonderful over the last few years is being more involved from the start to finish, really coming to set knowing this is the absolute best way we can tell this story. These are the best actors for the job. This is the best crew for the job. Having that confidence is so lovely. And it’s not that I didn’t have that before, but I’m much more cognizant of it now.
“So in that way, I’m looking forward to turning up, really knowing the ins and outs of what the journey has been, and we’re arriving at the absolute best place to tell this particular story.”
What else do we know about the film?
Details remain fairly thin on the ground but it is rumoured the film will find Rey training young Jedis.
At one point, fans were hoping for a Christmas 2026 release date but it appears that won’t be happening. In October, Ridley confirmed that “we don’t have a date” for the film to come out.
Added to that, there had been changes in the writing personnel as well. Besides, another Star Wars film will be out anyway in summer 2026, namely The Mandalorian and Grogu.
