- There has been no update on the big screen adaptation for two years
- Bautista isn’t officially attached to the Gears of War movie
- The Dune star asked for fans help to get updates on the film

Dave Bautista is very close to going all “Gimme What I Want” on Netflix in his search for updates on the proposed Gears of War movie adaptation.
The big screen debut of the insanely popular third person shooter franchise was originally announced back in 2022, with a script being written by John Spaihts (Dune). However, since 2023, when it was confirmed Spaihts would be in charge of the screenplay, there have been no further updates, leaving many fans, including Bautista, bewildered and frustrated.
While not officially attached to the project, Bautista has long been linked to the Gears of War movie, primarily because of the similarities in build between him and the game’s protagonist Marcus Fenix. At the time the film was initially announced by Netflix, Bautista told Variety, “It’s a part I’ve sought after for years and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully it will come my way and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometime.”
Bautista tells Netflix: “Get it together”
Even the game’s creator, Cliff Bleszinski, called for the former WWE Champion to be cast as Fenix, taking to X in 2022 to make his own plea to Netflix regarding casting choices.
Oh and yes, Bautista as Marcus please – and a Latino actor for Dom, dammit.

While promoting his latest movie, In The Lost Lands, Bautista once again brought up the subject of the Gears of War movie, in an interview with ComicBook, this time calling on fans to petition Netflix for more news about the Hollywood adaptation.
“Start an online thing about freaking Gears of War. Come on, Netflix. Come on already. It’s not like I’m not badgering them. Come on, Netflix. Get it together.”
Despite no news on the movie being forthcoming, Gears of War: E-Day is motoring ahead, with the video game prequel announced back in November, 2024. So Big Dave may just have to occupy himself with virtual Marcus Fenix for a little while longer, yet.
