- Destin Daniel Cretton has previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in the MCU
- Rumor indicates that Spider-Man 4 is going to happen after months of speculation
- Star Tom Holland has indicated a film could happen if the script was right

Could we be getting confirmation that our favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is to return? It seems so as a new name is reportedly in talks to direct the next instalment of the franchise.
New man in the chair?
Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to take over in the director’s chair for the Spider-Man 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cretton already has form in the MCU, having directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021.
Jon Watts has directed all three of the previous Spider-Man films in the MCU – Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home.
If Cretton is in talks, then it would seem to signal that progress is being made with Spider-Man 4 and plans for the film are becoming more concrete. Rumors about a fourth movie in the series have been circulating for months, but with very little in terms of actual information.
Months of rumor
Tom Holland, who has starred in the Spider-Man trilogy for the MCU, has previously stated that any new film will not retread old themes. “We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be,” he said. “But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”
In addition, if Cretton is to take over directing duties, it could give more credence to another rumor that has been gaining traction – that Spider-Man 4 could hit theaters in 2026. Marvel Studios recently updated its release calendar for the coming years, with two as yet untitled films slated for release in February and November 2026 and fans are wondering if the web-slinger might be filling one of those slots.
