Amid the recent excitement at the red carpet launch of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s new Marvel movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, crowds attending failed to spot the other big star of the night – Dogpool.
Dogpool, real name Peggy, is an incredibly ugly four-year-old Pug who landed her breakthrough role in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Dogpool, Wade Wilson’s doggy sidekick.
Reynolds was first smitten by her when he found out she’d won the UK’s Ugliest Dog photo competition.
At the London premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds was seen kissing and cuddling the ugly pug, who was fitted out in her signature black-and-red movie costume, complete with boots.
Bizarrely, Peggy held her own on the red carpet, even stopping to be interviewed by Pubity’s Nathan Aspinall. Standing next to Reynolds and Jackman, the ugly cuddly canine clearly bonded with the Hollywood duo during filming.
Deadpool owner Holly Middleton admitted she was more star struck than her super ugly pug pal.
“Peggy looked really comfortable the entire time, as probably most people would being cuddled by Ryan Reynolds,” Middleton told the BBC.
“They seem to really, really love her and they’re so gentle with her, and you can see… they’re giving her kisses and giving her little rubs on her head.”
Despite Dogpool’s overnight stardom, sudden fame has not gone to her head. Before she hit the red carpet and became an overnight star, Peggy was generally shunned by the public because of her grossly ugly features. But since her red carpet treatment and on-screen cuddles by Reynolds, the British and American public have warmed to the ugly pug.
