A man, his dog, and a stray dolphin shared the most wholesome moment ever captured on camera in Spain.
A dolphin in the harbor, who goes by the name of Manoliño, started to seek out human interaction. However, what’s unusual about the video is that the young dolphin is all alone.

An update by the user who posted the sweet video says Manoliño seeks out human contact because he has been separated from his pod for a few weeks. The video, posted on 25 April, also says this happened at an “early age” for the developing dolphin.

What happens in the dolphin video?
In a video posted by @globetrottingtimo on Instagram, you can see Manoliño bobbing in and out of the shallow water in the harbor to receive pets from an older man. Beside him is his curious black pooch, who observes the interaction.

One comment on the video by @alta_studio provides further context about Manoliño and his interactions with locals. Unfortunately, they are not good ones.
According to their profile, they are a photography business based “across Europe” and in Sydney.
The comment reads, “This is Manoliño the dolphins, and it’s a bit sad – he got separated from his pod at an early age, so now he seeks interaction with humans.
Unfortunately, he clashes with the interests of shellfish divers, who ask for his relocation, and he’s getting increasingly more used to human interactions.”
Their comment continues, “He’s also prone now to injury by humans who don’t mean well or exploitation. Beautiful animal, and I hope he lives long and doesn’t meet the same fate as Freya the Walrus. I’d recommend to simply observe if you end up in Galicia and not interact.”
Via this comment, we know the mammal resides in Galicia, a small community in northwestern Spain.
They are very friendly creatures
However weird it may be to see a man petting one like a dog, it is not surprising. Because they are highly social animals, they live in pods and are communicative creatures.
To each other, they communicate through clicks and whistles and often sport playful behavior around each other.
Furthermore, dolphins usually hunt in groups (sometimes they terrifyingly play with their food together) and raise their calves together.
As for their interactions with humans, dolphins are known to seek out social interactions with us. Wild ones, especially, have been caught on camera approaching fishermen and boats in the ocean, but not to look for a quick snack.
In fact, some studies have found dolphins share personality traits with humans, such as curiosity and socialability.
Maybe that is why Manoliño stopped for some pets?
Either way, we hope he enjoyed them.
