So what is the Rock cooking here? Dwayne Johnson and director and producer JJ Abrams have teased that they are collaborating on a new project.

Coming to live

Johnson shared a picture on social media on Wednesday of himself and Abrams alongside scriptwriter Zak Penn and Hiram Garcia, one of Johnson’s partner. Along with this he teased something was in the making.

“Years in the making – we finally broke break, we drank, we laughed, got a lil’ drunk (maybe that was just me) we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling. Then we all raised a glass and toasted to….

“yup, this one is gonna be fun.

“JJ & DJ

“From the mind of Zak Penn.

“…tonight it comes to life…”

So far, so cryptic. Could it be a new movie? That would be the obvious assumption given their respective histories.

Big histories

Penn is renowned for his work on Marvel movies such as Thor and The Avengers, as well as more recent hits such as Free Guy, which starred Ryan Reynolds.

Abrams has worked on huge franchises over the years, including Star Wars and Star Trek, as well as things like Mission: Impossible.

Johnson has mostly worked in action films, from appearing in the Fast & Furious franchise to DC superhero film Black Adam. He will also be appearing in the live-action version of Moana, which is set for release in 2026.

While Penn added in his own post on X (better known as Twitter) soon after saying “more on this later” we don’t yet have any indicators of what might be in the offing.

Presumably an official announcement of whatever is coming – be it movie, TV series or something else – will be forthcoming soon. We’ll keep you posted.
