Elon Musk has achieved one more milestone with his SpaceX company amid his bid to colonise Mars.

The company’s Texas headquarters, Starbase, has been granted city status. Boca Chica Village voted to allow the incorporation of the area into a city named after the Musk-owned private space company.

Previously, it was mainly inhabited by staff at SpaceX, which already has left a significant mark in the locality.

The local authority, Cameron County’s election, found 212 votes for creating the city of Starbase. Six votes were cast against it.

“Becoming a city will help us continue building the best community possible for the men and women building the future of humanity’s place in space,” Starbase TX posted on X.

The new city is a 1.5 square-mile area on the coast, near the border with Mexico.

Prior to this move, it was the prime launch site of the Spacex Starship. A considerable chunk of the locale’s infrastructure is managed by the company. This includes utilities, roads, schools, medical care and so on.

What are Elon Musk’s plans for space?

Musk wants to colonise Mars because of what he fears for humanity on planet Earth.

He told Fox News, “So, eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. The sun is gradually expanding, and so we do at some point need to be a multi-planet civilization because Earth will be incinerated.”

“Mars is life insurance for life collectively,” he added.
