- The original series ended in 2019
- House Of The Dragon has already been a resounding success
- There’s even more stories from Westeros to come, according to reports

Game Of Thrones might have come to a (rather limp) end in 2019 after eight seasons, but fans haven’t had enough of dragons on their screens.
The saga continued in the successful spin-off House Of The Dragon, whose second season wrapped up in August. A third season is in the works.

HBO recently confirmed it is developing yet another Game Of Thornes spin-off. It’s titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and will adapt George RR Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight. Peter Claffey will play Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tal. We c an expect to have it on our screens in late 2025.
Meanwhile, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, has revealed that more spin-offs are coming soon.

Speaking to Deadline, Orsi said: “We have other spinoffs that we’re working on right now, one of which – which I won’t get into – is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line.”
She added: “There’s a number of other spinoffs, we can’t really guarantee what’s going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones. I would say this [A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] is the most intimate one.”
In August, Martin said that seven spinoffs were in development, of which four are animated and three are live action. A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms was not included in that number. They’re in different stages currently, but they perhaps won’t all make it to the small (or big) screen.
What else do we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Production on the first season of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms has already concluded. There will be six episodes, which Martin has already seen.
The author hasn’t always praised House Of The Dragon, particularly when it’s deviated from his original books, but has been more complimentary of the new show.
“Ira [Parker, showrunner] and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post-production,” Martin wrote in a blog post.
“I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favourites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible.
Aegon’s Conquest
This series would serve as another prequel to Game Of Thrones, much like House Of The Dragon. It will centre on Aegon I Targaryen, better known as Aegon the Conqueror, and his conquering of Westeros. The script is currently in progress.
Sea Snake
There’s been word of this spin-off, which has gone through several working titles, dating back to 2021. This show is set to be animated and set further back in time, exploring the backstory of Corlys Velaryon from House Of The Dragon. The seafarer embarked on the legendary Nine Voyages, which is likely to be the central focus of the show.
Indeed, it was originally titled Nine Voyages but producers decided to alter it since “we wanted to avoid having two shows with numbers in the title,” according to Martin’s blog.
Ten Thousand Ships
The other show with a numerical title Martin was referring to was Ten Thousand Ships. Set about 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, it would follow Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell who founded Dorne.
The title refers to the number of boats accompanying Nymeria when her army traveled from Essos to Dorne. She later ordered the ships to be burned to definitvely destroy any chance of the ships turning back.
There was some to-ing and fro-ing over the series’ future but in June 2024, Martin revealed on his blog that recent Pulitzer Prize–winner Eboni Booth was writing the pilot.
“She’s an amazingly talented young playwright, and a joy to work with; when not writing and producing her prize-winning plays on- and off-Broadway, she has been kept busy by me and HBO, working on a new pilot for Ten Thousand Ships, a Game of Thrones spinoff about Nymeria and the Rhoynar,” Martin wrote. “We’re all very excited about this one … though we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to pay for 10,000 ships, 300 dragons, and those giant turtles.”
