She might be preoccupied with filming the final season of Stranger Things, but Millie Bobby Brown won’t be staying off our screens for long. The third Enola Holmes film is on its way, which she is involved with both on and off camera as star and producer.
The first film, which also stars Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge and Helena Bonham Carter, was a hit on Netflix in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. A sequel was quickly greenlit and released in 2022, taking inspiration from the real-life 1888 matchgirls’ strike.
A third film was confirmed to be in development in November 2023.

Who will star in Enola Holmes 3?
The cast for the threequel has not yet been confirmed, but we can expect that Brown will return as the titular detective.
Alongside Cavill as Sherlock Holmes and Partridge as Enola’s love interest Tewkesbury, we can also expect to see the return of Susan Wokoma as Edith, Himesh Patel as Dr. John Watson and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Sherlock’s notable adversary Moriarty.
The door is also open for the return of Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, who didn’t appear in Enola Holmes 2 due to scheduling conflicts.
“If there was a future one, we would love to have him back. But that was just the practicalities of life,” Enola Holmes 2 director Harry Bradbeer said in 2022.
What is the plot of Enola Holmes 3?
The second Enola Holmes film went beyond Springer’s book series, so it’s plausible that the third film could do the same.
Possible plot threads could involve the development of Enola and Tewkesbury’s relationship, after they finally declared their love for each other at the end of Enola Holmes 2. Enola also found a new office for her detective agency behind Edith’s jiu-jitsu studio, while Moriarty is now on the loose again after escaping police custody.
Notably, the new film has a different director attached from the previous ones. While Harry Bradbeer helmed the first two films, Philip Barantini has now taken the reigns.
Sources have said he is hoping to make the film a little darker and more mature. In his pitch for the film, he likened his vision for the series’ trajectory to that of the Harry Potter films. By the third film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, the tone had shifted and became darker as the characters got older. It’s certainly not a coincidence either that the third film had a different director from the first two in that franchise as well.

When will Enola Holmes 3 be released?
Enola Holmes 2 began filming in late autumn 2021 and wrapped by January 2022. It then arrived on Netflix in November.
If Enola Holmes 3 films to a similar schedule, we may see it on Netflix by the end of 2025. However, a release in early 2026 could be equally possible.
It is expected that Enola Holmes 3 will be Brown’s first project after filming wraps on the final season of Stranger Things. As of November 2024, shooting on that project is still ongoing but is expected to be near an end. Indeed, it’s now been confirmed that Stranger Things 5 will land in 2025 after all.
