It will be the MCU’s first animated series to receive a TV-MA rating, indicating it is intended for mature audiences. Fans of the original Marvel Zombies comics will be hopeful that the series will follow more closely to the comic book stories. Either way, it promises to delve deeper into the darker, horror-themed aspects of the Marvel Universe.

When is Marvel Zombies released?
Marvel Zombies is set to be a mini series consisting of four episodes, part of Phase Six of the MCU.
The release date had been continually shifting, but it has now been confirmed that it is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on 3 October, 2025, just in time for Halloween.
It is directed by Brian Andrews, a storyboard artist who contributed to the likes of Doctor Strange (2016) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Who’s in it?

Many cast members are reprising their voice acting roles from the What If… Zombies?! episode, including the multi-talented Awkwafina as Katy, David Harbour as Red Guardian and Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi.
Elizabeth Olsen returns to voice Scarlet Witch, as well as Randall Park as Jimmy Woo and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova.
Other returning cast members include Hudson Thames as Spider-Man (Tom Holland did not reprise the role for What If… Zombies?!) Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Dominique Thorne as Ironheart and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel.
Speaking to The Direct, Vellani commented about how much she enjoyed voicing Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, “We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love – there are a lot of cool characters in the ‘Marvel Zombies’ show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.’”
Other characters confirmed for the series include survivors Death Dealer, Blade/Moon Knight and Xu Wenwu. Zombie versions of superheroes Hawkeye, Captain America, Abomination, Ghost, Captain Marvel, Ikaris, and Okoye are also set to appear. The cast for these roles are yet to be announced.
Todd Williams, best known for starring in the Fox series The Chicago Code, is also confirmed as a voice in the cast, but it is unknown at this stage what his role is. Maybe he’s playing a character that’s new to the MCU?
What is Marvel Zombies about?

The story will presumably pick up from where the episode What If… Zombies?! had left off
It takes place in an alternate reality where Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018) unfold differently, leading to a zombie apocalypse. By the end of the episode, a small group of surviving heroes heads to Wakanda, hoping to use the Mind Stone to create a cure for the Quantum virus. However, they remain unaware that a zombified Thanos has already arrived and is in the process of conquering the country.
In an interview with Marvel, creator Andrews revealed “it’s going to be pretty awesome. I mean it’s TV-MA, it’s hardcore. People die. And they die rough. So, there’s still some laughs to be found here and there. It’s not completely all horrible.”
In October 2024, Marvel Studios released a trailer featuring footage from their upcoming TV shows. Included in that trailer was a snippet of Marvel Zombies and it still remains the only footage out there. The animation is a cel-shaded style, a technique that makes 3D animation look like 2D hand-drawn cartoons or comic book illustrations.
From what we can tell in the brief scenes, it will live up to its promise of zombie violence and gore. It’s also got fans speculating over Blade, who appears wearing armor. The character will reportedly perform a Moon Knight-esque role in the series.
