Spinal Tap 2 has been given an official release date! The follow-up to This is Spinal Tap, the 1984 beloved cult classic mockumentary about a British rock band, is coming to cinemas sooner than you think.

Along with the date, they also dropped a 30-second film teaser. Fans might be disappointed that it’s not an official trailer, but it’s better than nothing! In the clip, there’s a nod to the original with someone repeating the “turns it up to 11” gag.

The group first appeared in 1979 as a comedy skit on ABC pilot The T.V Show.

What do we know about the plot of Spinal Tap 2?

The plot of Spinal Tap 2 revolves around the band’s reunion tour following the death of their manager, Ian Faith. The storyline was inspired by a man who brought him to life, Tony Hendra, passing away.

In December 2024, Reiner told Empire magazine, “It came from a very real place, which was that Tony Hendra, the actor who played Ian Faith, their manager in the movie, passed away.”

“And in reality, the guys — Harry, Chris and Michael — hadn’t played together as Tap for 15 years.”

What about the behind-the-scenes stuff?

Bleeker Street is bringing the film, and they enthused about how “privileged” they are to be involved.

Their CEO, Andrew Karpen, and President, Kent Sanderson, said in a joint statement, “We feel privileged for the opportunity to work with Rob Reiner and the brilliant minds behind the original This Is Spinal Tap and to be part of a film that has resonated with so many.”
