- First look at Malcolm in the Middle reboot revealed
- Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek reprise roles
- Original series writer also returns

“MALCOLM!”. It’s been 25 years since homes everywhere started to hear that booming out of their televisions. But now, 19 years after its finale in 2006, the beloved comedy sitcom Malcolm In The Middle is set to return.
The show’s original run started in 2000 and after 151 episodes it racked up 33 Emmy nominations, winning seven in total, including for best directing and best writing for a comedy series.
Boss of Me, the hit theme song by They Might Be Giants and arguably one of the greatest theme songs of the 2000s, was also awarded a Grammy.
Disney+ has commissioned four new episodes – proving that life isn’t unfair after all – and here’s everything we know so far about the welcome news.
What is the storyline for the Malcolm in Middle limited series?
The new episodes will focus on Malcolm and his daughter reconnecting with his family.
According to the official logline: “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

It seems as though Malcolm – who as a teenager struggled to fit in with his family, being that he had a genius IQ – will be suffering the same fate as an adult.
Who’s returning in the cast?

In short, all the familiar faces you’d hope for are returning for the show’s revival.
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are reprising their roles as Malcolm’s parents, Hal and Lois.
The chaotic and comedic pair took to social media with their famous catchphrase announcing that the show would be returning with its original cast.
Frankie Muniz, who is now 39, of course reprises his role as the show’s protagonist. Frankie commented: “I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.”
The first look at Muniz back together with Cranston and Kaczmarek was revealed in late April 2025.
Muniz posted the picture to his X account with the caption, “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!”

Muniz’s on-screen older brother, Reece, played by Justin Berfield is also returning to the show. Berfield stepped away from acting after the show concluded, but has posted to Instagram saying “On my way to meet the MITM fam. See you soon!”.
Christopher Masterson, who played eldest brother Francis, has also been confirmed to reprise his role.
The original series creator, Linwood Boomer, also returns as writer and executive producer.
However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey in the original series is not returning. His role has been recast and the now adult Dewey will be played by Caleb Ellworth-Clark.
