- Robbie is filming a new Emily Bronte adaptation
- Emerald Fennell is directing
- Her dress caused a stir on social media

Margot Robbie is currently filming the new Wuthering Heights adaptation – and a wedding dress she was wearing in photos has divided fans.
Emerald Fennell – of Saltburn and Promising Young Woman fame – is directing the new version of the classic 1850 Bronte novel. Robbie stars as Catherine Earnshaw and also serves as a producer through her company LuckyChap. She will appear opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

Elordi and Robbie have already proved divisive choices for their respective roles. Fans of the book said they struggled to envision them as Cathy and Heathcliff and suggested both were too old for the roles. Meanwhile, others pointed out descriptions from the book that mention Heathcliff has darker skin than Elordi has.
Now, photos have emerged of Robbie in a wedding dress on the set of the film. The dress featured puff sleeves and a full princess-style skirt. She also wore a large, flowing veil and held a bouquet of roses.
“That godawful dress just ruined my day”
Generally, the reaction to the photos wasn’t especially positive. Some thought the wedding dress was ugly in and of itself, while others pointed out it was historically inaccurate.
“begging people in historical movies and shows to realize white wedding dresses where made the norm in the VICTORIAN ERA. wuthering heights is set in the Georgian Era no one was wearing white dresses for a wedding,” summarised one X/Twitter user.
Another said: “I don’t necessarily have an issue with anachronistic clothes in a period drama IF the period drama is good & compensates in other areas, but that white dress Margot has on is so ugly. And what’s more irritating is you can see it has some historical inspo…”
A third person added: “Seeing Margot Robbie as Catherine from wuthering heights in that godawful dress just ruined my entire week.”
