- Season three trailer for Bridgerton has dropped
- New season set to focus on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington
- Star Nicola Coughlan reveals nervousness at taking center stage in the drama
Since it first aired in 2020, Bridgerton has had viewers hooked as to what drama is to unfold next in the Ton.
And now season three is set to hit our screens on May 16 – and fans are going wild for the newly released trailer.
This season will focus on Colin Bridgerton – the third child of the Bridgerton family and played by actor Luke Newton – and his friendship with Penelope Featherington… who viewers will also know is the gossip-stirring Lady Whisteldown, brilliantly portrayed by Nicola Coughlan.
While Pen has harbored a long, secret love for Colin over the years, the trailer suggests that this is all about to change – as the tagline for the series states, ‘Even a wallflower can bloom’.
Of course, loyal followers to Bridgerton have had much to say about the latest installment.
“Remember when colin said “i would never dream of courting penelope featherington, not in your wildest fantasies” well mr bridgerton it seems to be in YOUR DREAMS AND YOUR WILDEST FANTASIES NOW DOESN’T IT,” reminded one fan.
Another added, “EYES STARING AT HER LIPS, MOUTH OPEN, COLIN BRIDGERTON YOU DID IT, THE PINING, THE YEARNING, THE LOVE, THERE’S EVERYTHING HERE.”
Many were rewriting the show already.
“I desperately NEED for both benedict & anthony to find out about colin liking penelope & tease him about it or have a reaction like ‘I KNEW IT’ preferably at the same time like they ALWAYS KNEW colin would end up with penelope i’d go CRAZY,” pleaded one viewer.
Some had a thing to say about Newton, 31, and his, ahem, sculpted physique in the show.
“Love how they’re edging us by giving us shirtless Colin in a CARRIAGE, but never actually showing the Polin carriage scene,” laughed one, while another added, “Colin Bridgerton i am on my knees for you.”
While followers of the show may be very excited at the prospect of its return, Coughlan, 37, has revealed her slight terror at becoming the center of attention.
“The major difference is that in the first two seasons, Pen was a supporting character, the oddball in the corner, but this time she’s very much center-stage,” the Derry Girls actor told Harper’s Bazaar. “The only issue with this is that ‘oddball in the corner’ is actually a niche I do very well. I’m comfortable there! Strange girl no one pays attention to? Where do I sign up?”
She continued, “I girded my loins for terrible comments, and when they were so positive, I was shocked. It’s so nerve-racking because the show is big, like hundreds-of-millions-of-viewers big, and to see people respond positively to it means everything.
“Ultimately, the thing that’s making me step out of the shadows, even though it terrifies me, is that I’m so proud of the work I’ve done, the people I’ve worked with and these beautiful shows we’ve made.”
When it first aired on Christmas Day almost four years ago, the series went straight to the top of Netflix’s viewing ratings, and became the most-watched original series launch of all time on the streaming service at the time of its premiere – only losing that title to Squid Game in October 2021.
The first season followed the love story of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (played by Regé-Jean Page). The next saw Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton fall head-over-heels for Kate Sharma CHECK, portrayed by Simone Ashley.
