While 2026’s Fast X part II is set to be Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) last outing in the film, there could still be plenty of life in the Fast and Furious universe, with potential for TV series and spin-off films.

NBCUniversal Studio’s group chairman and chief content officer, Donna Langley, speaking to Variety, says there is “still gas in the tank” of the long-running Fast and Furious franchise.

Potential for development

While Fast X part II – the 11th film in the series (not including spin-off Hobbs & Shaw) – is in the works with a scheduled release in 2026, it has the potential to be developed in other directions, according to Langley. “We may pivot another time and bring it back to the streets of LA and maybe make it a more intimate story,” she told Variety.

One potential avenue is in the form of a TV series, Langley said – given the recent success of series such as Ted, which was based on the successful films and has recently been picked up for a second series on Peacock.

Spin-offs in the works

There are already two spin-off films in the works. The first, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes, will team up Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) – presumably along the lines of previous spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. A female-led film is also in the works.

Fast and Furious has become one of the biggest movie franchises in the world since The Fast and the Furious was released in 2001, grossing more than $7 billion worldwide.

Filming for Fast X part II is set to start in early 2025, another film that has been delayed by the Hollywood writers’ strike.
