- Filming of the fourth Bridget Jones movie has reportedly been disturbed by bats
- Experts raised concerns that the creatures were being disrupted by the cast and crew in Keswick, Cumbria
- Elsewhere, fans were overjoyed to see that Colin Firth would be returning to the movie as Mark Darcy

It’s the fourth installment of our favorite rom-com franchise.
But filming of the next Bridget Jones movie came to a halt this week, due to disruption caused by… bats!
The news came after the cast and crew – fronted by Renée Zellweger, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Bridget at the 2002 Academy Awards – headed to the UK’s idyllic Lake District to shoot scenes.
But while on location in the woodland area in Keswick, Cumbria, bat experts reportedly raised concerns that the creatures were being disturbed by the film set.
A source revealed, “Filming ended up being paused by some bat experts who raised concerns about the local bat population and how they could be affected.
“Apparently they were worried about whether the bats could be disturbed, which made for a right old headache.
“An agreement was reached but it has become a running joke on the set. In the middle of fields in the Lake District, no one expected any issues.”
This isn’t the first time the movie, titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, has faced complaints.
Last month, residents in Hampstead, North London, were allegedly aghast after not being warned that filming was taking place in the area.
“It’s gone down like a lead balloon with some of the normal people who live and work there,” one local admitted. “It’s like they’re being held hostage by Bridget and it’s driving everyone mad.”
Mark Darcy is back!
But it’s not all doom and gloom for the film – as fans were overjoyed to hear that Colin Firth will be making an appearance in the movie after all!
It was previously thought that the actor, who plays Bridget’s love interest turned husband Mark Darcy throughout the franchise, would not feature in the fourth part – as writer Helen Fielding had previously killed off the dashing human rights lawyer in the plot of her book of the same name.
Pictures this week revealed that the actor is set to star once more as Darcy, who is also the father of Bridget’s two children – but fans will have to wait and see if his fate has been rewritten, or if the snaps are just part of a dream sequence.
A source said, “Colin was always going to appear in the movie but it was supposed to be a secret.”
