Final Fantasy 7 has turned out to be an extremely successful installment, especially on PC; 40,564 concurrent players were caught on Steam during the game’s launch weekend, According to Steam BD.
Final Fantasy 7’s Phenomenal PC Success
The game was originally released on the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024, and then on the Game Awards show, players were given the news of its availability on PC.
This second game in the trilogy finally made its way to the Steam and Epic Games store on January 23, 2025, and broke all records, gaining the highest number of concurrent players as compared to the previous games in the series.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade had 13,803 players, Final Fantasy 16: 27,000 players, and more; however, Final Fantasy 14 is still ruling out with 95,000 players.
Moreover, the game made skyrocketing early sales, ranked 15th best-selling game on Steam, with estimated sales ranging between 123,000 and 306,000 copies in its first three days, according to sources like VG Insights, Gamalytic and PlayTracker (stats mentioned by GameRant).
The notable factor here was there was a 30% discount offer for a limited time on the pre-orders, which boosted sales even more. The company itself was pretty satisfied as previously the PS5 sales were not as much as they expected, and now the PC version brought exceptional success.
Mods and Future: A New Chapter for Final Fantasy Fans
The game majorly received positive reviews. Besides this, players are allowed to bring the fun mods to make the game more amusing; during the interview with Automaton, Director Naoki Hamguchi mentioned,
“As someone who plays games on PC, I sometimes use mods myself,” Hamaguchi admitted. “I’m aware that mods have come to be accepted by the community and that they bring enjoyment to many players – I see it as a positive thing myself.”
“I respect the modding community, “Mods have played a significant role in the rise of the PC market. Look at series like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls – even years after release, new mods breathe life into these games, making players want to come back to them.”
As fans are busy diving into the new chapter, the new game in the trilogy is also in development. The date regarding the next installment has not been confirmed, but it can be expected around 2027, aiming to complete this 3-part remarkable story series.
