If you have ever dreamed of owning a robot dog combined with a flamethrower – and who hasn’t? – then your prayers have been answered, thanks to Throwflame.
Ohio-based Throwflame has just launched the Thermonator, which the company claims is “the first-ever flamethrower-wielding robot dog,” and is “your ultimate firepower companion”.
The quadruped robot has an ARC flamethrower strapped to its back, which can be fuelled with either gasoline or napalm. It has an impressive flame range too – up to 30 feet, and it has laser sighting to ensure aim is accurate. It also boasts a battery life of one hour, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which means it can be controlled remotely from a smartphone. It also has LIDAR sensors for mapping and help it avoid obstacles and a first-person view navigation from an onboard camera.
Videos on the company’s website show the Thermonator in action – it trots along at a good speed before letting out a huge jet of flame.
Thermonator has a range of uses, according to Throwflame, including wildfire control and prevention, agricultural management, ecological conservation, snow and ice removal and entertainment and SFX.
There are no specific regulations regarding flamethrower use in 48 states in the US and they are not considered as firearms by federal agencies – although general liability and criminal laws still apply in regard to their use.
The Thermonator could be yours for $9,420 – with the bonus of free shipping if you live in the US.
Of course, it goes without saying that products such as this should be used with extreme care – something to keep in mind if you want to add it to your Christmas list this year.
