- Netflix shared first picture from the upcoming film on X
- Production on the film has officially started
- Tom Harper is directing, having directed several episodes of the show
In a move sure to set Shelby family fans on edge, Netflix have released the first shot of Cillian Murphy from the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, which is now officially in production.
Murphy, fresh from his Oscar winning role as J.Robert Oppenheimer in last summer’s award sweeping blockbuster Oppenheimer, also has roles in upcoming Irish drama Small Things Like These and dystopian zombie sequel 28 Years Later. But is perhaps his final showing as the leader of the Shelby family that is most highly anticipated.
Netflix shared a picture of Murphy in full Tommy Shelby attire and then one of the actor alongside series creator Steven Knight on-set. The film, which is also set to star Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth and Barry Keoghan, is tentatively titled The Immortal Man.
Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons between 2013 and 2022, originally airing on BBC Two in the United Kingdom. Netflix then acquired the rights to release the show in the US along with a feature film which is expected to bring an end to the saga of the Shelby family.
Filming is believed to have already taken place around St.Helen’s in Merseyside, with Tom Harper directing, having directed several episodes of the show previously. Murphy is co-producing the picture alongside Knight, who also wrote the script.
While no release date has been confirmed for the film, it is expected for either late 2025 or early 2026.
