Netflix has dropped its first teaser for the hugely anticipated Squid Game season 2 – and hints that there could be more found out about the shadowy people behind the brutal games.
While the teaser doesn’t give much away, what we can see is that the main protagonist from season 1, Seong Gi-hun (again played by Lee Jung-jae) is back, having managed to survive the deadly previous games, although this time he does have a striking red hairdo. The action seems to pick up after the conclusion of the first season – with Gi-hun on a mission of his own this time round. He is shown delivering a Liam Neeson-like warning to an unseen foe: “I will find you. No matter what it takes.”
Intrigued? So are we.
The first glimpse of the new season arrived as part of Neflix’s 2024 preview video, which showcased several upcoming shows on the streaming platform.
But Squid Game season 2 is sure to be huge. When the first season dropped in 2021, the Korean-language series by Hwang Dong-hyuk became an unexpected global phenomenon, as audiences were taken in by the story of a secret contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial trouble, risk their lives to play a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win huge cash prize.
Since then, Squid Game has spawned masses of merchandise, including replica figures of the characters by Funko, as well as a real-life version – Squid Game: The Challenge – which was fortunately less deadly than the original.
But what the trailer didn’t show was a release date for the show. All we know is that it will land in 2024. Can the show live up to the first season? Millions will be tuning in to find out!
