Are you ready to spend another night at Freddy Fazbear’s pizzeria? Because Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has been confirmed to be in the works, with a release date set for fall 2025, Universal has confirmed.

Universal’s president of domestic theatrical distribution Jim Orr confirmed the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The news wasn’t a surprise, given the success of the first film, which focused on a Chuck-E-Cheese like establishment, where the animatronic characters have developed murderous tendencies. The original Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the cult series of horror video games of the same name, was released in cinemas worldwide and on streaming service Peacock in the US on October 27 last year. The film went on to gross $291 million at the worldwide box office and was the most watched title ever in a weekend on Peacock. The success made it Blumhouse’s biggest hit to date.

Details such as who would be directing the film, plot points or which – if any – actors would be returning to reprise their roles were not given in the announcement.

However, Josh Hutcherson, who starred in the first film as security guard Mike Schmidt, has previously talked of his hopes for a sequel. Presumably, now it has been green lit, he will be keen to star again.

The exact date for release hasn’t been announced yet, nor whether it will be released simultaneously at theaters and on Peacock again.

Also at CinemaCon it was announced that another Blumhouse horror hit, M3gan, would be getting a sequel too.
