The road to WrestleMania traditionally throws up surprise returns and storyline twists. At Royal Rumble 2025 we saw the likes of Alexa Bliss, Trish Stratus, Nikki Bella, Charlotte Flair and AJ Styles all make their returns. We even got a surprise appearance from YouTube sensation IShowSpeed in the men’s Royal Rumble match. It didn’t end well.
With Elimination Chamber upon us and many key players still off television, it only makes sense that the rumor mill is spinning again. There’s potential for some big returns at the premium live event, so let’s take a look at some of the names that are being mentioned.
Randy Orton
Orton has been off TV since November after he suffered a brutal attack at the hands of Kevin Owens on Smackdown. Owens delivered a sickening package piledriver to the Viper, leaving Orton needing to be stretchered out of the arena and putting him out of action. Owen has since used the banned move on his best friend Sami Zayn, setting up what seems like a new rivalry and a possible match at Elimination Chamber. This opens the door to an Orton return, who could show up to seek revenge and cost Owens the match. Perhaps an Owens v Orton WrestleMania 41 match would also be on the cards.
Jade Cargill
November also saw Jade Cargill get attacked on an episode of the blue brand. During a match between Cargill’s tag team partner Bianca Belair and Chelsea Green, footage showed an injured Cargill backstage. She was found lying on the hood of a car with a broken windshield. The mystery surrounding her attacker has sparked speculation among fans, many suggesting that Belair’s new tag team partner Naomi was behind the vicious assault. With reports saying that Cargill is back in training at WWE’s Performance Center and with Belair participating in the Elimination Chamber match, it could be the perfect stage for a return.
Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch hasn’t been seen in WWE ever since her contracted expired on 1 June, 2024. Her last match was on an episode of Raw where she failed to regain the title from Liv Morgan in a steel cage match. Morgan had defeated Lynch days earlier at the King and Queen of the Ring show to become the new Women’s World Champion. Lynch reportedly re-signed with WWE in January 2025, but has yet to make her on-screen return. Many fans expected to see her return during the women’s Royal Rumble match, but it didn’t happen. So maybe a Elimination Chamber return is on, as it looks like Lynch’s only shot at securing a top billing at WrestleMania.
The Rock
The Final Boss was at the heart of last year’s road to Wrestlemania, bringing equal measures of excitement and nostalgia to the storylines. His appearance on the Raw Netflix premiere this year however, was low-key by comparison. Fans are speculating whether The Rock will even be a part of WrestleMania this year. If he’s to insert himself into the main event fold, there’s no bigger stage to do it than the men’s Elimination Chamber match. After all, the winner of the match will go on to face current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and The Rock has constantly hinted at a match with Rhodes for the gold.
Goldberg
Goldberg made an on-screen return to WWE at the Bad Blood premium live event in October 2024, where he got into an altercation with current World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther. Goldberg and his son Gage were sitting front row in the audience and when Gunther came out he insulted them both. Goldberg tried to attack him, but was held back by security guards. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion has since revealed that he and WWE had agreed to terms for his in-ring retirement match, leading to speculation as to when and who against. Elimination Chamber 2025 is being held in Toronto, the same city where Goldberg made his in-ring return at 2016 Survivors Series.
