- Fans have been waiting for the sixth instalment of Grand Theft Auto for 11 years
- Former developer has warned fans that the new game might initially disappoint fans
- GTA 6 will be released in fall 2025

Grand Theft Auto 6 is arguably the most anticipated video game in history – fans have been waiting 11 years so far for it to be released – but a former staff at developer Rockstar Games has warned fans they could be disappointed initially once they get their hands on it.
Developer warning
Speaking to the SanInPlay YouTube channel, former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij has issued fans with a warning. He says that it might not be wildly different to GTA 5 – and that some people might be a little disappointed with that, at least initially.
Vermeij added that there won’t be the same jump in quality of graphics as there were between some previous iterations of the series – although this is common to a lot of franchise games as the leap in technology between consoles narrows.
But that said, Vermeij still says that GTA 6 will be “the best game out there,” and pointed to how, in a beach scene already released, every character is animated and doing their own thing.
Huge anticipation
Fans will get the chance to make up their own minds in the autumn of next year when the game is – finally – slated for release. When the first official trailer for the game dropped in December 2023, it sent fans wild, and that clip has now been watched more than 200 million times.
We already know that GTA6 will have two main protagonists, with one being female. Lucia was featured heavily in the trailer, sharing a bond with the yet-to-be-officially-named male protagonist. In addition, the setting will be Vice City, but in modern day – when it was originally seen, it was set in 1986. There are also indications that the game will go beyond the confines of the city, much as Rockstar has previously with Los Santos.
