Producers on Gen V have confirmed that they will not be recasting the role played by Chance Perdomo following the actor’s passing in March, with storylines being rewritten instead.

Perdomo, 27, played Andre Anderson, a central character in the Prime Video series, which was a spin-off from The Boys. Anderson was a student at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting with magical powers. Gen V followed Anderson and others as they navigated their lives, learning to harness their powers but also deal with more normal student dramas.

Perdomo, who was born in Las Vegas but raised in England, was travelling through upstate New York on his motorcycle when he was involved in the fatal accident. It is thought he was on his way to Toronto, where Gen V was set to start filming on April 8. He made his acting breakthrough in the UK, with the critically acclaimed Killed By My Debt, and then found success in the US on shows such as the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The producers also confirmed that production on the second season – which had been set to start just after Perdomo died – will begin later this month.

In a statement published on the @genv X account, the producers said: “As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to fine the best way to pay respect to his memory.

“We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May.

“We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
