- The pair starred together in 1996’s From Dusk Till Dawn
- Clooney ‘irritated’ by Tarantino’s comment that he’s ‘not a movie star’
- Tarantino had also claimed Clooney hadn’t had a hit movie since 2000

George Clooney is not happy with Quentin Tarantino. While the pair may have enjoyed success together almost 30 years ago, playing the Gecko brothers in Robert Rodriguez’s cult vampire classic From Dusk Till Dawn, it appears a big screen reunion is firmly off the table, after Clooney expressed his annoyance over comments the Pulp Fiction director made in an interview about him.
Clooney, 63, was speaking with GQ, alongside Brad Pitt, with whom he stars in upcoming action comedy Wolfs, when the subject of Tarantino arose.
The Oscar winning actor was directed by Tarantino in a 1995 episode of ER before appearing alongside him a year later in From Dusk Till Dawn. During the interview with GQ, it was mentioned to Clooney that he could let Tarantino know that he is available for casting.
“Quentin said some s**t about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney began, “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars and he was talking about you (Brad Pitt), and somebody else, and then this guy goes ‘well what about George?’ He goes, ‘he’s not a movie star’. And then he literally said something like, ‘name me a movie since the millennium’. And I was like, ‘since the millennium?’ That’s kind of my whole f**king career.”
While the comment brought a laugh from Pitt during the interview, Clooney continued on seeming far from impressed, “So now I’m like, alright dude, f**k off. I don’t mind giving him s**t. He gave me s**t.”
The Michael Clayton star, who took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Syriana, in 2005, has, of course, done pretty well for himself since 2000, regardless of what Tarantino may have said about him, starring in Burn After Reading, The Descendants, Up In The Air, Gravity and the Ocean’s trilogy since the turn of the century, among numerous other critically acclaimed pictures that have seen the Golden Globe winner earn a plethora of accolades in the process.
While Clooney didn’t specify which Tarantino interview he was referring to, it is believed to be a conversation the director had with Deadline columnist Baz Bamigboye, which the writer referenced in a 2023 article. Tarantino had been asked who he considers a movie star, and when Clooney’s name was brought up, the Reservoir Dogs director replied, “Well, it’s been a long time since I think George Clooney has drawn anybody to an audience…when was his last hit where he drew an audience?”
Clooney did confirm later in the interview that there is no actual bad blood between him and Tarantino, saying, “but no, look, we’re really lucky we get to work with these great directors. Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive.”
