Gillian Anderson has given Ryan Coogler her seal of approval for his upcoming reboot of the X-Files.

Anderson starred as Agent Dana Scully in the cult classic ’90s sci-fi series, which spun off two feature films, in 1998 and 2008 respectively. Running for 11 seasons, the show – which also starred David Duchovny as Agent Fox Mulder – has long remained a favourite among original fans and those who have discovered it long after the first run wrapped in 2002, mainly thanks to two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018.

“She’s Incredible. Fingers Crossed”

Coogler, fresh off his barnstorming success with vampire horror Sinners, is eyeing the reboot as his next major project. During an appearance on The Last Podcast On The Left, Coogler said of Anderson, “She’s incredible. Fingers crossed there.”

Coogler continued, “I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f***ing scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great, bro, and really be something for the real X Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”

Anderson, meanwhile, spoke enthusiastically about the 38-year-old Black Panther director during an appearance on British daytime show This Morning, where she was promoting her new film The Salt Path.

Speaking about the potential of her own involvement and Coogler’s directorial skills, Anderson said, “I spoke to him, and what I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person and best of luck, call me.’ At some point, if the phone rings and it’s good and it feels like the right time — perhaps.”

Last year the Sex Education star spoke with a similar passion when asked about the project and was, once again, extremely complimentary about Coogler and his ability to helm the reboot.

Speaking on the Today Show, Anderson said, “Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something.”
