What Are The Rumors?

An insider who goes by “Lunatic Ignus” revealed to Need4Games that multiple God of War games are being remastered. God of War (2018) and its sequel, Ragnarok, were critically acclaimed and system sellers. They were also wildly successful on the PC platform.

Rumors suggest that PlayStation wants to remaster the original trilogy for their new hardware. This includes God of War Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta, and Ascension. Kratos’s journey across the Greek realm spans these three games.

The insider claims developer Nixxes is in charge of the remasters and is working non-stop to have them released as soon as possible. An announcement could be made in March 2025, when the franchise will be twenty years old.

What This Means For The Franchise

Sony is no stranger to remasters and remakes. Having just recently remastered The Last of Us and Until Dawn, it’s clear nothing is off the table. The original God of War series is iconic, but many players still haven’t ever played it.

God of War (2018) is a soft reboot of the franchise, and for many, it was the first game in the franchise. The Greek Saga features a younger Kratos thirsting for revenge. The games are also arguably much more violent and dark.

Late last year, Valhalla, a free Ragnarok DLC, was released and features a few elements and characters from previous games. Players were thrilled to get a taste of nostalgia, and many wondered how this feature-packed DLC was even free.

While some of Sony’s remasters are questionable, an up-to-date and visually pristine God of War Greek Trilogy may just be what the console needs. It gives long-time fans a chance to relive the thrilling revenge narrative and newer players more God of War games.

Keep in mind all of this is just a rumor. This information is to be taken with a grain of salt. No official rumor by Sony has been made.
