Everyone’s favorite legendary monsters are set to team up again to save the world, following confirmation that a Godzilla Vs Kong 3 has been greenlit.
The new film, a sequel to the 2024 hit Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, will see the pair go up against a new threat to the world.
The threequel is no surprise, given the box office success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire last year. It had one of the biggest opening weekends of the year – taking $194 million at the global box office – and was overall the eighth biggest film of the year, taking more than $571 million in all.
This new movie, which is yet to have an official title, will be the sixth film in Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros’ Monsterverse. Here is all we know about it.
What is the plot of Godzilla Vs Kong 3?
While exact details of the plot of Godzilla Vs Kong 3 are not being revealed by the studio yet – as is the custom – there is a teaser for what fans can expect.
The studio says, as per The Hollywood Reporter, that: “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”
Who is in Godzilla Vs Kong 3?
The Titans will be getting help from plenty of human friends, it seems. Dan Stevens, who played Trapper Beasley, the monster veterinarian and dentist in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is returning.
He will be alongside newcomers including Kaitlyn Dever (Abby in The Last of Us) and Jack O’Connell, who will be playing brother and sister.
Blockbuster monster movie veteran Sam Neill is also joining the cast. He played Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic Park 3 (2001) and Jurassic World Dominion (20220.
Meanwhile Grant Sputore is directing, with the script penned by Dave Callaham.
Is this part of the Monsterverse?
Yes. This will be the sixth film in the Monsterverse series. This began with 2014’s Godzilla, followed by Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla Vs Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024).
The Monsterverse also includes the TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023-), which explores the history of the Monarch organization and its relationship with Godzilla and Kong and Skull Island (2023-), which is an animated series set on the island of the second film.
When can we see Godzilla Vs Kong 3?
Godzilla vs Kong 3 is slated to hit theaters on March 29, 2027. Filming on the movie has already started, and it is anticipated that post-production will take up all of 2026.
The first trailer for the movie is expected in Fall 2026.
